桐木田の井戸（Kirikida no Ido ）

This monument represents the remains of Kirikida no Ido (Well of Kirikida).
It is said that Komachi first took a bath using water from this well when she was born.
This well was found at the mansion of Komachi’s father, Ono no Yoshizane.  If you look at it from above, you can see that the natural stones are put together to form a pentagon. As this technique was not commonly used around this area at the time, but around Kyoto, it is important proof that it was made around the early Heian Era.

ここは、小町ゆかりの遺跡『桐木田の井戸』をイメージしています。
桐木田(きりきだ)の井戸は、小野小町が産湯(うぶゆ)を使った井戸と伝えられています。
小町の父、出羽郡司(でわぐんじ)小野良実(おのよしざね)の館跡に残った井戸は、真上から見ると自然石が五角形に組まれています。こうした工法は、当時のこの地方では全く用いられておらず、都を中心に多く見られた形をしていることから、平安時代初期に創掘されたものと鑑定された貴重な遺跡です。
